With the Calenda of the Virgin of Soledad (lonelyness), July 16, 2001 (her birthday), this gives the start to the statewide festivities of La Guelaguetza... la Guelaguetza is a two week celebration in which the seven (7) regions of Oaxaca State get together and form a big dance. This dance was actually a religious ceremony to thank their "gods" for giving them their annual harvest.
